The Wright State Laker baseballers traveled down to Tennessee for their annual spring trip to play 5 games in 3 days with the opportunity to extend their 6-game win streak. The Lakers went 2-3, with two of the five games being settled by walk-off hits. After the up and down week, the Lakers now stand 8-4.
Wright State Lake 6 vs Hiwassee College 5
Wright State Lake and Hiwassee College played a taut affair on Thursday, but the Lakers eventually prevailed over the Tigers, 6-5 after taking the lead for good in the fifth inning.
Carson Schuman earned the win for Wright State Lake. He threw five and a third innings, allowing four runs, nine hits, striking out three, and walking zero. Quintin Cantelli recorded the last out to earn the save for Wright State Lake. Matt Ledbetter took the loss for Hiwassee. He pitched five innings, allowing four runs, three hits, and striking out seven.
Billy Lanman and Connor Burr each had two hits to lead Wright State Lake. The Lakers were aggressive on the base paths stealing 5 bases, Burr led the way with three. Lanman also chipped in two RBIs in the win.
Wright State Lake 1 vs Hiwassee College 2
A walk-off left Wright State Lake on the wrong end of a 2-1 defeat to Hiwassee in game two of the double header Thursday. The game was tied at one with Hiwassee batting in the bottom of the eighth when Hunter Wesson singled off of Quintin Cantelli, driving in one run.
The pitching was strong on both sides. Hiwassee Tiger pitchers struck out five, while Wright State Lakers sat down four.
In the top of the seventh inning, Wright State Lake tied things up at one with a Chandler Craine 1 out single.
Ryan Keefe earned the win for Hiwassee, while Logan Donovan took the loss for Wright State Lake. Donovan tossed one and one-third innings in the loss.
Billy Lanman started the game for Wright State Lake. He tossed six innings, surrendering one run, seven hits, and striking out four. Zach Roberts started the game for Hiwassee. He pitched six innings, giving up zero runs, two hits, striking out five, and walking zero.
The Lakers offense sputtered in game two with only three hits. The loss snapped the Lakers 7 game win streak.
Wright State Lake 6 vs Johnson University 0
Sid Srinivasan complete game shutout led the Lakers over Johnson University 6-0 on Friday. Srinivasan allowed just three hits and struck out three Johnson Royals in route to the victory.
Wright State Lake used a monster five run in the seventh inning to seal the game.
Tristan Becker, Knous, Anthony Steele, and Lanman all had one hit to lead Wright State Lake. Lanman again powered the Laker offense with 2 RBIs.
Wright State Lake 7 vs Johnson University 8
Another walk-off left Wright State Lake on the wrong end of an 8-7 defeat to Johnson University on Friday. The game was tied at seven with Johnson University Royals batting in the bottom of the seventh when Caleb Lee singled off of Tristan Becker, driving in one run.
Wright State Lake fell behind by five runs in the fifth inning, but in typical Laker fashion they battled back by scoring 4 runs in the top of the seventh inning.
Griffin Tate earned the win for Johnson University. He pitched two-thirds of an inning, surrendering one run, one hit, and walking zero. Chase Ruiz took the loss for Wright State Lake. He threw two and a third innings, surrendering two runs, two hits, and striking out three.
Johnson University collected 11 hits. Shepherd, Chandler Viscardis, Howard, and Caleb Lee each collected multiple hits for Johnson University.
Wright State Lake offense woke back up with13 hits in the game. Lanman, Jared Knous, Venters, and Connor Burr each collected multiple hits for Wright State Lake. Ronald Acosta, Becker, Cantelli, Fitzgerald, Burr, Venters, and Lanman each drove in one run to lead Wright State Lake. Connor Burr; Billy Lanman; Tristan Becker; Isaac Fitzgerald each doubled in the game. Quintin Cantelli had the Lakers first homerun of the season.
Wright State Lake 5 vs Hiwassee College 7
Wright State Lake lost the lead late in a 7-5 defeat to Hiwassee on Saturday.
Wright State Lake scored four runs in the sixth inning to take the lead 5-3. Wright State Lake's big inning was driven by a double by Tristan Becker, a single by Chandler Craine, and a double by Jared Knous.
Unfortunately, the Laker lead was short lived as Hiwassee Tigers evened things up at five in the bottom of the sixth inning. Sheldon Brogden drove in one when he singled in the sixth inning.
Dan Borchers started the game for Wright State Lake. He tossed five and two-thirds innings, surrendering five runs, eight hits, and striking out two. J Williamson started the game for Hiwassee. He went five and two-thirds innings, allowing five runs, seven hits, striking out one, and walking one.
Wright State Lake collected eight hits. Craine, Becker, and Knous all had two hits to lead Wright State Lake.
