Lakers Split with the Chargers

The Lakers traveled up the road to take on the Edison State Community College Chargers. The Lakers entered the doubleheader 10-4. 

 

Game 1: Wright State Lake Campus 5 versus Edison State 6

The Chargers jumped out early on the Lakers taking a 4-0 lead heading into the third inning, but the Lakers found their rhythm at the plate and were able to battle back.

After Wright State Lake scored one run in the top of the third, Edison State answered with one of their own. Wright State Lake scored when Billy Lanman doubled off Jeffrey Mefford, driving in one run. Edison State Community College then answered when Miguel Velazquez singled off Sid Srinivasan, driving in one run. 

The turning point in the game for the Lakers was when Jared Knous stepped up to the plate and blasted a two run homerun over the centerfield fence. It drew the Lakers within two. In the sixth inning the Connor Burr and Ronaldo Acosta both scored to draw the score even heading into the bottom of the sixth. Unfortunately for the Lakers, Jarob Negron drove in Jake Young for what proved to be the game winning run for the Chargers.

Srinivasan took the loss for Wright State Lake. He pitched six innings, allowing six runs, nine hits, and striking out three.

Lanman led Wright State Lake with two hits, an RBI, and a stolen base.

 

Game 2: Wright State Lake Campus 7 versus Edison State 3

In game two the Lakers looked to rebound against the Chargers. Dan Borchers pitched a gem in order to lead the Lakers to their eleventh victory of the season.

The Lakers scored the first three runs of the game to take control of the game. The Lakers scored in every inning except the first inning. Edison State was able to scatter 10 hits throughout the game but were unable to capitalize as the Chargers left 9 baserunners on base.

Borchers earned the win for Wright State Lake. He pitched seven innings, giving up only one earned run and striking out seven.

Wright State Lake Campus had six hits in the game. Dustin Lewis and Billy Lanman each collected multiple hits for the Lakers. Wright State Lake tore up the base paths, as Lewis and Jared Knous stole two bases each.

  • Edison Community College scored three runs in the second inning. Edison Community College's big inning was driven by a home run and a single by Keith Olmo.
  • William Wells earned the win for Edison Community College. He went two innings, allowing zero runs, zero hits, striking out three, and walking zero. Srinivasan took the loss for Wright State Lake. He pitched six innings, allowing six runs, nine hits, and striking out three.
  • Mefford started the game for Edison Community College. He pitched four innings, giving up three runs, three hits, and striking out three.
  • Home runs for Edison Community College came when Nieves homered in the first inning and Velazquez homered in the second inning.
  • Lanman led Wright State Lake with two hits in four at bats.
