On a wet soggy day in Celina, Wright State Lake Campus baseball team took on, last year's USCAA National Runner Up, Cincinnati Clermont for a doubleheader. Lakers entered the game focused for one of their biggest series all season.
Game 1: Wright State Lake Campus 7 versus Cincinnati Clermont 5
Cincinnati Clermont captured the lead in the first inning. The Cougars scored when Jake Murray blasted a two run homerun in the first inning.
After Cincinnati Clermont scored one run in the top of the third, Wright State Lake answered when Tristan Becker singled off of Jonathon Deifel, driving in one run.
Wright State Lake took the lead for good with an explosive five runs in the fourth inning. Isaac Fitzgerald soearheaded the inning with a three run shot that sailed over the left field fence.
Lanman earned the win for the Lakers tossing five innings, giving up five runs, five hits, and striking out three. Quintin Cantelli recorded the last three outs to earn his third save for on the year.
Cantelli also went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Wright State Lake in hits. Fitzgerald went 1-for-2 with two BBs and 3 RBIs.
Game 2: Wright State Lake Campus 3 versus Cincinnati Clermont 5
Wright State Lake Campus watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 5-3 loss to Cincinnati Clermont in game two Sunday.
The Cougars jumped out to a 4-0 lead when the Lakers stepped to the plate in the bottom of the third. Wright State Lake Campus was on the attack with the momentum building scoring one run, and the bases loaded when a rain delay halted the Laker offense. Out of the rain delay Chandler Craine struck out to end the threat for the Lakers.
The Lakers got two back in the fifth from a Tristan Becker sac fly RBI and Ronald Acosta scored on a wild pitch to make the score 5-3.
In the bottom of the seventh the Lakers were threatening the Cougars again with bases loaded with one out. Unfortunately for the Lakers, the Cougars Grant Christman struck out Quintin Cantelli and Jared Knous to end the Lakers hopes of a sweep.
AJ Sweatland earned the win for Cincinnati Clermont. He went four innings, allowing three runs, eight hits, and striking out two. Grant Christman recorded the last nine outs to earn the save for the Cougars. Carson Schuman took the loss for the Lakers going five innings, giving up five runs, nine hits, striking out five, and walking one.
Wright State Lake Campus had ten hits in the game. Jared Knous, Dustin Lewis, and Tristan Becker each collected multiple hits for Wright State Lake.
With the split, the Lakers stand 12-6 and continue their best start in program history.
