Less than a week removed from their first match-up, the Wright State Lake Campus baseball team took on Cincinnati Clermont in another USCAA matchup. The Lakers entered the game hoping to improve on the split they earned in the first doubleheader with the Cougars.
Game 1: Wright State Lake Campus 3 versus Cincinnati Clermont 4
Wright State Lake Campus and Cincinnati Clermont played a tight game, but the Cougars pulled out the 4-3 victory on Saturday. The game was tied at three with Cincinnati Clermont batting in the bottom of the sixth when the Cougars scored on a passed ball to score the winning run.
Cincinnati Clermont captured the lead in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Jake Murray. The Lakers would respond quickly with two runs in the top of the second inning. The first run came on a RBI single by Chad Anders, which scored Tristan Becker. The second run came after a throwing error by the catcher, Murray, scored Connor Burr while attempting to steal third base.
Jake Allen earned the win for Cincinnati Clermont. He threw seven innings, allowing three runs, four hits, striking out seven, and walking zero. Dan Borchers took the loss for the Lakers. He pitched six innings, surrendering four runs, six hits, and striking out three.
Anders went 2-for-3 at the plate as he led the team with one run batted in.
Game 2: Wright State Lake Campus 11 versus Cincinnati Clermont 2
The Lakers jumped out to an early lead over Cincinnati Clermont and took home an 11-2 victory in game two on Saturday. The Lakers, again, fell behind 1-0 in the first inning, only to rally this time en route to a big come from behind win.
Cincinnati Clermont captured the lead when Nick King drove in Lukas Greenhill with a single in the first inning. The Lakers, however, took the lead for good with three runs in the second inning. In the second Ronaldo Acosta tripled off of King, driving in two runs and Dustin Lewis hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Acosta.
Wright State Lake Campus, also, scored four runs in the sixth inning. The big inning was thanks to a triple by Billy Lanman, a single by Tyler Venters, and a error on a ground ball hit by Anthony Steele.
Lanman earned the win for the Lakers. He pitched seven innings, allowing two runs, one hit, and striking out seven. King took the loss for Cincinnati Clermont. He went three and a third innings, giving up five runs, three hits, and striking out four.
The Lakers collected eight hits. Becker (3 hits and 3 RBIs) and Lanman (2 hits and 2 RBIs) each collected multiple hits for Wright State.
The Lakers are now 13-7 on the year and 2-2 in USCAA play.
