Wright State Lakers Sweep Barons

Wright State Lakers, once again, traveled to Fairborn to play at Nischwitz Stadium on Sunday. This time the Lakers took on rival OSU-Lima in a doubleheader that was moved up from Wednesday.

Both teams were strong on the mound Sunday, but the Wright State Lake Campus defeated OSU-Lima 2-1. The hurlers for the Lakers allowed just five hits to OSU-Lima in game one.

An early lead helped propel the Lakers to victory, when Dustin Lewis scored on a throwing error by catcher Will Kleffner who was attempting to throw out Tyler Venters at second base.

Sid Srinivasan earned the win for the Lakers. He pitched six innings, surrendering one run, five hits, striking out two, and walking one. Quintin Cantelli recorded the last three outs to earn the save. Landen Myers took the loss for OSU-Lima. He threw six innings, allowing two runs, seven hits, and striking out five.

Wright State Lake Campus collected seven hits. Lewis and Isaac Fitzgerald each collected multiple hits for the Lakers in the winning effort. Lewis went 3-for-3 at the plate and scored both runs.

Wright State Lake Campus jumped all over OSU - Lima early, on their way to a 19-1 win in game two of a double-header on Sunday. The Lakers scored on a triple by Billy Lanman, a single by Tristan Becker, a single by Venters, and a passed ball to take a 5-0 lead after one inning.

The Lakers then added 14 runs in the second inning to remove any doubt of the outcome. The big inning was driven by a single by Fitzgerald, a single by Chandler Craine, a single by Anthony Steele, a single by Venters, a double by Connor Burr, a single by Ronaldo Acosta, a single by Lanman, a double by Fitzgerald, an error, a walk, and another double by Burr.

Dan Borchers earned the win for the Lakers. He pitched three innings, allowing one run, two hits, striking out four, and walking one. Logan Donovan and Riley Luebke each threw one inning, as the two relievers helped the Lakers finish off the victory. Celina H.S. graduate, Justin Keeling, took the loss for OSU-Lima. He threw one and one-third innings, allowing 13 runs, 11 hits, and striking out three.

Lewis, Lanman, Venters, Burr, and Fitzgerald each collected multiple hits for Wright State and the Lakers totaled 16 hits for the game. Lewis went 3-for-4 at the plate in game two and was 6-for-7 on the day to lead the Lakers. Another strong takeaway was the fact that the Lakers didn't commit a single error in the field.

The Laker Baseball team now sits at 16-7 on the season and is, currently, ranked #1 in the USCAA Coaches Poll.
