#8 Cleary Sweep #1 Lakers

The Wright State Lakers traveled to Howell, Michigan to take on the #8 ranked team in the USCCAA, Cleary University on Saturday. The Lakers and Cougars played two more closely battled games, with Cleary taking both games of the doubleheader.

 

Wright State Lake Campus 6 vs Cleary 7

Wright State Lake Campus lost the lead late in a 7-6 defeat to Cleary University in game one on Saturday. The Lakers lost despite out-hitting Cleary University thirteen to nine. The Lakers took a 6-2 lead in to the bottom of the 6th inning, before the Cougars rallied to complete the 7-6 win.

The Lakers captured the lead early when Connor Burr homered in the first inning. Tristan Becker also homered for the Lakers; his coming in the third inning. Of the thirteen hits, the Lakers were lead by Burr, Dustin Lewis, Tyler Venters and Becker, who each collected multiple hits. Burr went 3-for-4 at the plate and led the team with three runs batted in.

Nick Hoogerhyde and Reid Beffrey each collected multiple hits for Cleary University. Cleary University was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. 

 

Wright State Lake Campus 1 vs Cleary 6

The Lakers stayed in it until the end, but Cleary University pulled away late in a 6-1 victory in game two. The game was tied at one with Cleary University batting in the bottom of the fifth when Beffrey singled off of Carson Schuman, driving in one run.

Cleary University scored four runs in the sixth inning to pull away late. Badih Jawad earned the win for the Cougars. He threw seven innings, allowing one run, one hit, striking out three, and walking zero. Schuman took the loss for the Lakers. He went five innings, surrendering four runs, and seven hits.

Dustin Lewis led the Lakers with one hit in three at bats.

The Lakers are now 18-11 on the season.
