Wright State Lake Campus Earns Split with Blue Devils

The Wright State Lakers wecolmed NAIA opponenet Lawrence Tech to Montgomery Field on Wednesday afternoon for a mid-week doubleheader. The Lakers late comeback attempt in game one fell just short, but they were able to ride the momentum to a big win in game two of the set.

 

Lawrence Tech 6 vs Wright State Lake Campus 5 

 Despite a 5-run deficit in the fifth inning, Wright State Lake Campus almost came all the way back, eventually falling 6-5 to Lawrence Tech in game one. The Lakers scored four runs in the failed comeback on a single by Ronald Acosta in the sixth, a single by Quintin Cantelli in the sixth, and a single by Isaac Fitzgerald in the seventh.

The Lakers captured the lead in the first inning, when Tristan Becker drove in a run on a single. Lawrence Tech evened things up at one in the top of the third inning, when a ground out by Ryan Robinette scored a run.

After giving up 5 runs in the top of the fifth, the Lakers scored three runs in the sixth inning to start the comeback bid.

Chris Burgess earned the win for Lawrence Tech. He went six innings, allowing five runs, six hits, and striking out five. Casey Grimm took the loss for the Lakers. He tossed four and a third innings, giving up six runs, six hits, striking out one, and walking one.

Fitzgerald went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Wright State Lake Campus in hits.

 

Lawrence Tech 5 vs Wright State Lake Campus 9

Five runs batted in from Tristan Becker helped lead Wright State Lake Campus past Lawrence Tech 9-5 in game two. Becker drove in three runs on a triple in the second and two more on a double in the third.

Wright State grabbed an early lead when they scored on a walk by Tyler Venters, a walk by Connor Burr, the triple by Becker, a double by Fitzgerald, and a single by Chandler Craine in the second inning.

However, Lawrence Tech was the team to jump out to an early lead in the first inning. Before any outs were made in the first inning, Michael Rinke drove in two runs for the Blue Devils when he doubled.

Wright State Lake Campus took the lead for good with the seven runs in the second inning. Venters and Burr walked to drive in a runs, Becker tripled to drive in three runs, Fitzgerald doubled in one run, and later scored the final run of the inning on a throwing error by the catcher. 

Carson Schuman earned the win for Wright State Lake Campus after bouncing back nicely from the rough first inning. He threw four innings, surrendering three runs, five hits, striking out three, and walking one. Two relievers helped the Lakers close out the victory. Billy Lanman threw two innings and Riley Luebke came in to finish off the game for the Lakers. Reboyras took the loss for Lawrence Tech. He went two innings, surrendering seven runs, seven hits, and striking out two.

The Lakers had 13 hits in the game. Becker, Venters, Acosta, and Craine each collected multiple hits for Wright State Lake Campus.

The Lakers are now 20-14 on the season and are currently ranked #2 in the USCAA.
