Eagles and Lakers Split Saturday DH

The Wright State Lakers squared off with USCAA opponent Robert Morris University - Springfield at Montgomery Field on Saturday afternoon in the first of back-to-back doubleheaders. The Lakers pitchers struggled mightily against the Eagles in game one, but they were able to bounce back in grand fashion in a game two victory.

 

Robert Morris - Springfield 14 vs Wright State Lake Campus 4 

Robert Morris scored first in the game, scoring 3 runs in the third inning off starter Sid Srinivasan. Springfield added 2 more runs in the top of the fifth, before Wright State Lake Campus scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Lakers scored on a single by Chad Anders and a double by Ronaldo Acosta. 

Robert Morris University - Springfield scored nine runs in the fifth inning, putting the game out of reach. The Eagle's big inning was driven by a double by Joe Bridges, singles by Daniel Cardenas, Jeffrey Leach, Joey Collura, Santino Bejarano, and Sam Huet, and walks by Jordan Seitz and Cardenas.

Austin Whitlock earned the win for Robert Morris University - Springfield. He pitched five innings, surrendering four runs, nine hits, striking out three, and walking one. Srinivasan took the loss for the Lakers. He went four innings, surrendering five runs, 11 hits, striking out one, and walking zero.

The Lakeres had nine hits in the game. Quintin Cantelli and Connor Burr each collected multiple hits for Wright State Lake Campus. Robert Morris University - Springfield collected 20 hits.

Dan Borchers didn't allow a single run as Wright State Lake Campus defeated Robert Morris University - Springfield 15-0 in game two. Borchers allowed just two hits and induced a groundout from Steven Shigley to end the game.

An early lead helped propel the Lakers to victory. Wright State Lake Campus scored when Isaac Fitzgerald was hit by a pitch, on a fielder's choice by Chandler Craine, a home run Cantelli, and a single by Tyler Venters in the first inning.

A single by Collura in the fourth inning was the first for Robert Morris University - Springfield.

Borchers earned the win for the Lakers. He went five innings, allowing zero runs, two hits, striking out one, and walking one. Tyler Williams took the loss for Robert Morris University - Springfield. Williams started the game and went one-third of an inning, surrendering five runs, two hits, and walking one.

Home runs for the Lakers came when Becker homered in the fourth inning after Cantelli homered in the first inning. Wright State Lake Campus collected 12 hits. Burr, Billy Lanman, Venters and Chad Anders each collected multiple hits for the Lakers. Becker and Cantelli each drove in three runs to lead the Lakers. Wright State Lake Campus didn't commit a single error in the field. 

The Lakers are now 21-15 on the season and are currently ranked #3 in the USCAA.
