#3 Lakers Get Vital Sweep in Sunday DH

The Wright State Lakers squared off with USCAA opponent Robert Morris University - Springfield at Montgomery Field on Sunday afternoon in the second of back-to-back doubleheaders. The Lakers pitchers performed much better on day two, en route to sweeping the two-game set with the Eagles.

 

Robert Morris - Springfield 1 vs Wright State Lake Campus 5 

 Wright State Lake Campus grabbed the lead in the second inning, on its way to a 5-1 victory over Robert Morris University - Springfield in game one. The Lakers scored on a error in the first inning and a double by Tyler Venters in the second inning.

Robert Morris University - Springfield was first on the scoreboard, scoring in the first inning. Santino Bejarano hit into a fielder's choice, scoring one run.

The Lakers knotted the game up at one in the bottom of the first inning, when Venters scored on an error by the Eagles second baseman.

Wright State Lake Campus took the lead for good with two runs in the second inning. In the second Venters doubled off of Tyler Williams, driving in two runs.

Carson Schuman earned the win for the Lakers. He went six innings, giving up one run, four hits, striking out three, and walking one. Williams took the loss for Robert Morris University - Springfield. He threw six innings, allowing five runs, five hits, and striking out two.

Venters went 2-for-3 at the plate as he led the team with two runs batted in.

 

Robert Morris - Springfield 4 vs Wright State Lake Campus 5

 The Lakers defeated the Eagles 5-4 in a back-and-forth affair in game two. The game was tied at four with Wright State Lake Campus batting in the bottom of the fifth when Dakota Craft singled off of Zak Merchant, driving in the winning run.

Robert Morris University - Springfield took an early lead in the first inning, when Merchant singled in Huet in the first inning.

Chase Ruiz earned the win for the Lakers in relief. He went two-thirds of an inning, giving up zero runs, one hit, striking out one, and walking zero. Quintin Cantelli recorded the last six outs to earn the save for the Lakers. Merchant took the loss for the Eagles. He threw two and two-thirds innings, allowing two runs, three hits, and striking out three.

Billy Lanman started the game for the Lakers and pitched four and a third innings, giving up four runs, six hits, and striking out one. Steven Shigley started the game for the Eagles and tossed two and a third innings, allowing three runs, five hits, striking out two, and walking zero.

Wright State Lake Campus had nine hits in the game. Lanman and Craft each collected multiple hits for the Lakers. The Lakers were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. 

The Lakers are now 23-15 on the season and are currently ranked #3 in the USCAA.

On Wednesday, the Lakers will close out their regular season as they host NAIA opponent Indiana Wesleyan in a doubleheader at Montgomery Field. First pitch for Senior Night is scheduled for 5:00p.
