Lakers Split Tight Double Header with the Cougars

The WSU-LC Laker baseball team had their weekend series washed out with Penn State Du Bois, but were able to get a double header with USCAA power Cincinnati-Clermont Cougars for a twin bill on Saturday. The games were played at Nischwitz Field as the Lakers home field still is not ready from the tornado earlier in the fall. 

 

Game 1:

Both teams were strong on the mound on Saturday, but University of Cincinnati-Clermont was just a little bit stronger at the plate in a victory over Lakers on Saturday. Zach Kirby started the game for Lakers and pitched well giving up no runs in his four innings of work. Lakers lost despite out-hitting University of Cincinnati-Clermont seven to four. Kirby lasted four innings, allowing zero hits and zero runs while striking out five. Carson Schuman threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen and was credited with the loss in the low scoring battle. Lakers tallied seven hits on the day. Conor Schmitt and Tristan Becker each collected multiple hits for Lakers. Schmitt led Lakers with three hits in three at bats.

  • Becker had two hits and 1 RBI for the Lakers
  • Connor Burr, Dustin Lewis and Becker all had stolen bases for the Lakers

 

Game 2:

Lakers defeated University of Cincinnati-Clermont 6-5 in game two on Saturday. Lakers pulled away for good with four runs in the fourth inning. In the fourth Dustin Lewis singled on a 1-1 count, scoring two runs and Noah Greathouse singled on a 2-2 count, scoring two runs. Billy Lanman earned the win for Lakers. He allowed three hits and three runs over three innings, striking out two. Quintin Cantelli recorded the last three outs to earn the save for Lakers. Casey Grimm started the game for Lakers. He allowed four hits and two runs over three innings. Lakers saw the ball well today, racking up nine hits in the game. Connor Burr and Chase Ruiz all collected multiple hits for Lakers. Burr led Lakers with three hits in three at bats.
