Shooting Woes Plague Lakers vs #20 Indiana Tech

Wright State Lake traveled just across the border to Fort Wayne to take on #20 Indiana Tech in the Northern Lakes Insurance Tournament hosted by University of Saint Francis.

How It Happened: Wright State opened up the first four minutes strong leading 7-4, but after that first four Indiana Tech went on a 30-7 run to take control of the game. The Warriors were extremely efficient in the first half shooting a red hot 48 percent including 7 triples. The Lakers struggled to take care of the ball turning it over 12 times. Indiana Tech took full advantage getting 17 points off of the Laker turnovers in the first half. The Lakers were unable to get much going offensively scoring 29 points on 35 percent shooting in the first half.

The second half the Lakers offense showed more pace and flow, but it was like there was a lid on the basket. Wright State managed to score 7 points in the first 13 minutes of the second half. Fortunately for the Lakers their defense tightened up and was able to string stops together. Neither team shot well from the floor in the second half. The Lakers shot a mere 24 percent in second half, while the Warriors shot 34 percent. The Lakers brought more pressure defense in the second half that seemed to disrupt the Warriors offensive ryhthm, forcing Warriors to cough it up nine times in the second half. Despite that the Warriors knocked off the Lakers 81-54.

By The Numbers: Tyler Daniel was once again the leading scorer for the Lakers scoring 15 points on 5/11 shooting and added 7 boards... Tanner Watkins nailed 5 triples for the Warriors and led all scorers with 22 points... Indiana Tech held the rebounding advantage 51-36. The free throw line was a big difference in the game as Wright State went 10/14 from the line and Indiana Tech went 20/30 from the free throw line.

The Coach Says: "Indiana Tech is a quality team. There is a reason they're number 20 in the country. Despite that I saw growth in our team again today. We have to focus in on details a little more. I know shots will fall, today we just couldn't get any to go," said Coach Richard Westerlund. Coach Westerlund also said, "I was really happy with the way we pressed tonight. It was pretty clear our press bothered them in the second half, and we are going to build of that. We really need to get Gilbert Carter going. He is a great scorer and his moment is coming. I thought Ty and Vonzell Groom both played real well today. We will keep working and competing, we are excited for our challenge tomorrow against another quality team."

Up Next: Wright State Lake Men's Basketball will take on Cincinatti Christian (RV) tomorrow, October 29, for a 12pm tip-off.
