Poor First Half Dooms the Lakers

Poor First Half Dooms the Lakers

The Lakers traveled up the road to take on Edison State Chargers friday evening. The shorthanded started the game first four minutes neck and neck with the Chargers but the next 5 minutes Wright State Lakers could not create good offense, while Edison was able to shoot the ball at a very high clip. After the first half Edison took a 55-31 lead. The second half was much closer and Lakers controlled much of the half, but unfortunately the whole was too deep to dig out of, and the Chargers defeated the Lakers 101-70.

What Coach Says:

Coach Richard Westerlund said, "A college game is 40 minutes. Unfortunately we went through long stretches with poor focus and attention to detail. Although we only had 13 turnovers, bad shots are the same thing as a turnover and we took a lot of bad shots tonight. Second half is something I feel we can really build off of. We cut into their lead pretty significantly because we were patient and focused on creating good opportunities. I was really happy with the way we shot the 3 ball today. It was nice to see some of those go down for us. Coach Westerlund on Kain Luthman's play, "Kain is a special player. He is very gifted and he continues to impress each night. Challenge with Kain is getting him to be more aggressive. I like how he fits into our group." Coach Westerlund also said, "We need to focus on having stronger first halfs. We play well in the second half, but so far this season our first halves have been a weakness for us. That will be our focus as we take on Clermont tomorrow."
