Men's Basketball Schedule Preview

Wright State Lake Campus Men's Basketball program announced its schedule for 2017-2018, as the Lakers will play 12 home games, 19 road games, and 1 neutral site game. The Lakers are looking to improve off last year's 5-20 record. Coach Richard Westerlund is very excited about the schedule this season. Coach Westerlund said, "I believe top to bottom this is one of, if not the toughest schedule in the country. Our philosophy is to be challenged night in and night out. I believe this schedule accomplishes that. I am excited for our young guys to have the growing opportunities this schedule provides."

The young Lakers squad which features only one upper classman and three returners will have their work cut out for them with their schedule this season. The Lakers schedule consists of 32 with 16 games before Christmas break and 16 after the break. The Lakers open their season on the road against Georgetown College on October 29th. The first game in front of the Laker faithful will be November 4th against Asbury University.

The Lakers will be road warriors traveling over 6000 miles this season round trip. Their longest trip is to Iowa where the Lakers will take on Grinnell College and William Penn University on the weekend of November 17-18. 

Schedule features many marquee games including 3 NAIA Is, 5 NCAA D2s, 5 NAIA IIs, and 9 USCAA games.

Notable Opponents:

Georgetown College: Sweet 16 Participant in NAIA Division I National Tournament. Finished season ranked #14 in the country

 William Penn University: Final Four Participant in NAIA Division I National Tournament. Finished season ranked #4 in the country

University of Pikeville: Elite 8 Participant in NAIA Division I National Tournament. Finished the season ranked #7 in the country.

Ohio Valley University (NCAA D2)

Ohio Dominican University (NCAA D2)

Walsh University (NCAA D2)

Taylor University: NAIA Division II National Tournament Participant. Finished the season ranked #21 in the country.

Grinnell College (NCAA D3)

 

USCAA Opponents:

Lakers have home and homes matchups with Kent State Tuscarawas, Cincinnati Clermont, Southern State, and Andrews University. The Lakers will also host Warren Wilson December 10th, which will round out their USCAA portion of the schedule.

 

The Lakers ultimate goal is to receive the program's first invitation to the USCAA National Tournament which will be February 28-March 3rd at Penn State University Fayette.
