Thursday evening the Wright State Lake Men's Basketball team traveled to Lousiville, Kentucky to play Boyce College searching for their first win of the season. The Lakers came focused and jumped out to an early lead, but the pesky Boyce squad found ways to comeback multiple times on the Lakers in the first half. The Lakers saw their lead grow to 15 points three different times, but the Bulldogs would battle back to stay within eight at the break. Out of the second half the Lakers continued to use their pressure that was so successful in the first half, and were able to consistently turnover the Boyce Bulldogs. Highlights of the game came from Zakarius Milhouse who electrified the gymnasium with two monster dunks. The first over an unsuspecting Boyce defender who rose with Milhouse, and Milhouse continued to rise and flush it over him. The second came out of transition as David Swillum saw the streaking Milhouse and threw the alley oop to the rim for Milhouse, who took it out of the rafters and jammed it home. Leading the Lakers in scoring was freshman point guard Jordan Gorman with 19 points of 6/12 shooting and sophomore Jake Ryan with 17 points on 6/12 shooting. The Lakers used a big second half to blow the game open and defeat the Bulldogs 106-74.

What Coach Says:

Coach Richard Westerlund had this to say after the game, "It is always nice to get the first win on the year, and to do it in the fashion we did and in the environment we did it in, makes this one feel very good. We are far from a finished product but we did a lot of things very well tonight. I loved the way our guys moved the ball and shared the rock. We've been really focusing on getting that movement offensively. Defensively our pressure worked really well, but we have to do a better job of not fouling and finishing possessions with a rebound." Coach Westerlund also said, "I was really pleased with our bench they brought energy and production from the jump. We are a much better team when we have these guys come in and impact. I thought our bench was the difference in the game. Now we have to get ready for a tough Asbury team on saturday."
