Cold Shooting Lakers Stumble Against Lourdes

The Wright State Lake Campus Men's Basketball opened it's home slate against Lourdes University Gray Wolves last night in front of a full gymnasium. The Lakers and Gray Wolves were back and forth for much of the game playing different styles as the Lakers wanted to push the tempo while the Gray Wolves were looking to slow it down and grind it out. The Lakers held a two point lead with 3:38 remaining in the first half when Lourdes University used a 9-0 run to close the half to gain all the momentum. Coming out in the second half the Lakers would compete hard to battle back, but could never get over the hump in the second half. The Lakers were led by Jordan Gorman's 25 points including 17 second half points and Quincy Green's 16 points and 8 rebounds.

Inside the Box Score:

  • Nick Passino was effective with 11 points and 8 rebounds off the bench
  • Free Throw Blues: Lakers shot an abysmal 7-20 from the free throw line while the Gray Wolves shot 23-35 from the free throw line.
  • The Gray Wolves scored 25 points off of the Laker turnovers compared to the 17 the Lakers scored off of the Gray Wolves turnovers.

What Coach Says:

Coach Richard Westerlund on the game, "We had moments tonight where we looked really good, and then other moments where we did not. We have to do a better job finishing halves out. In our three losses this year we've allowed teams to go on runs at the end of halves and its really hurt us. We did a bad job on the free throw line and just did not have the focus needed to win a basketball game tonight. We missed too many layups and free throws to expect to win a game." Coach Westerlund also said, "Jordan has been special for us this season. His consistency is one of his best traits. I though Nick Passino played with great energy and Quincy continues to find his rhythm every game."
