Coach McCoy Bio

I'm Wayne McCoy, newly hired head softball coach for Wright State University's Lake Campus in Celina, Ohio.  My wife Anne is the assistant coach.

I started coaching Little League baseball and football in the 1980's and discovered it was something I truly enjoyed and was very rewarding.  My wife and I became assistant coaches for a high school varsity softball program at Ayersville in Defiance, OH.  Two years later we became co-head coaches and turned the program into a state ranked team reaching 7th in the state.

I was also coaching travel ball out of Toledo, OH for Team Coca Cola, Express 88, and SGS Magic.  These were three very successful programs winning multiple tournaments including state tournament champs in the ASA and USSSA.

From there I went on to become the assistant softball coach for 8 years at the University of Saint Francis in Ft. Wayne, IN.  So what started out as a hobby, turned into a career.

Anne and I continued to coach travel ball until 2015.  We created a local travel team, Ft. Wayne Lady Cougars which took 2nd place at the All Sanction World Series in 2014.

Since 2008 I have been the lead softball instructor for Extra Innings Academy, which is now The Diamond Baseball/Softball Academy.  I instruct pitching, hitting, catching and defense.

Anne and I have recently accepted positions with the USFA as State Tournament directors and look forward to working with more youth teams this summer.

We are VERY excited to become the new softball coaches at Wright State's Lake Campus.  We look forward to a successful season during our first year, as we have a great bunch of hard working, very coachable young ladies that are eager to start playing.

We have four children, 2 girls and 2 boys as well as 10 beautiful grandchildren that we enjoy spending time with.  Family is our main priority, and we try to be the rock for all of them.

"Strive to be the best you can be...focus, watch, listen, and learn.  Try never to be satisfied with "good enough" and above all, love what you do – share that passion with others, and always stay humble.  Nobody likes a "big head" no matter how good you are"
