Softball Split DH with Chillicothe

After beginning their season on Tuesday, the Laker Softball team was back in action on Saturday as they traveled to Chillicothe to take on Ohio University - Chillicothe in a doubleheader.

 

Game 1: Wright State Lake Campus 11 versus OU-Chillicothe 13

Despite a 5-run deficit in the fifth inning, the Lakers almost came all the way back, eventually falling 13-11 to OU Chillicothe on Saturday. The Lady Lakers scored three runs in the failed comeback on a double by Abbey Renner and a hit  by Sierra Fent.

Both teams exchanged the lead back-and-forth in the game, but OU Chillicothe eventually took the lead for good thanks to a home run in the third inning.

Wright State Lake Campus took an early lead in the first inning. Fent drove in one when she doubled in the first inning.

OU Chillicothe took the lead for good with three runs in the third inning. In the third Kendra Barnes homered off of Renner, driving in three runs.

The Lakers scored three runs in the seventh inning, which was driven by the double by Renner.

Rener took the loss for the Lakers. She threw six innings, giving up 13 runs, 16 hits, striking out two, and walking one.

Wright State Lake Campus had 14 hits in the game. Renner, Tiffany Ricketts, Callie Vogel and Brooke Stout each collected multiple hits for the Lakers. Ricketts and Renner each collected three hits to lead the Lady Lakers.

 

Game 2: Wright State Lake Campus 9 versus OU-Chillicothe 6

Wright State Lake Campus Softball grabbed an early lead on its way to a 9-6 victory over OU Chillicothe on Saturday. The Lakers scored on a single by Sierra Fent, a single by Callie Vogel, a double by Jordan Leffler, an error, and a single by Rachel King in the first inning.

The Lady Lakers earned the victory despite allowing OU Chillicothe to score five runs in the sixth inning. OU Chillicothe's big inning was driven by a groundout by Makenzie Barr, a groundout by Brantly Warren, a single by Rachel Roque, a walk, and a error.

Fent earned the win for the Lakers, as she pitched six innings, surrendering five runs, seven hits, and striking out two. Two relievers helped the Lakers close out the victory. Abbey Renner threw one inning and earned the save.

The Lakers had 12 hits in the game. Rachel King, Fent, Callie Vogel and Brooke Stout each collected multiple hits for Wright State Lake Campus. King, Vogel and Jordan Leffler each drove in two runs to lead the Laker Softball team.

OU Chillicothe collected nine hits. Jenna Perie and Roque each collected multiple hits for OU Chillicothe

The Lakers now sit at 2-2 on the young season.

The Lakers will head to Clark State Community College on Friday afternoon for a DH against the Lady Eagles.
