Lakers Suffer Buzzer-Beater Heartbreak

The Lady Laker Women's Basketball had a better showing on Wednesday night in round two against the Lady Barons of OSU-Lima. The Barons of OSU-Lima were held to 29% shooting from the field and 14% from the 3 point line by the stingy Laker defense. The Lakers, also, struggled offensively shooting 32% from the field and 27% from three. The Barons would, ultimately, make a very controversial basket as time expired en route to a 61-60 victory.

How It Happened: The Barons led throughout the contest, including a 33-29 halftime score and a score of 48-40 lead at the end of the third quarter. The Lakers, however, had a particularly strong fourth quarter, outscoring the Barons 20-11 in the frame, prior to the last second score. The Barons gained possession of the ball via a jump ball with 3.1 seconds remaining in the contest. Basinger for the Barons drove the ball to the basket before missing a desperation jump shot, leading to an offensive rebound by H. Best who let go of her shot as time expired for the victory. Onyx Lopez led the Lakers with 24 points, 12 rebounds as well as 2 assists, a steal and a block for the Lakers. Cami Hellwarth also added a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds and 2 blocked shots. Kelsey Wertz had 10 points, 6 assists and 3 rebounds on the night.
