Lakers take on rival UC Clermont

Lakers host rival The University of Cincinnati-Clermont in a doubleheader this past Sunday at Montgomery field here in Celina Ohio. Both of these programs excel highly with the USCAA rankings while battling it out every year during the regular season. here is a recap from Sunday's doubleheader.

Game 1:

Sunday's game against the University of Cincinnati-Clermont Cougars Varsity was a heartbreaker for Wright State University-Lake Campus Lakers Varsity, as they lost the lead late in a 7-4 defeat. The game was tied at four with the University of Cincinnati-Clermont Cougars Varsity batting in the top of the tenth when Tyler Gulley doubled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run.

Wright State University-Lake Campus Lakers Varsity opened up scoring in the first inning when Nathan Riddle induced Nick Hundley to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored.

In the top of the sixth inning, the University of Cincinnati-Clermont Cougars Varsity tied things up at four. Gulley drove in two when Gulley singled.

Nick Bailey took the loss for Wright State University-Lake Campus Lakers Varsity. The hurler lasted one and one-third innings, allowing three hits and three runs while striking out one.

Game 2:

Wright State University-Lake Campus Lakers Varsity fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 5-3 loss to the University of Cincinnati-Clermont Cougars Varsity on Sunday. University of Cincinnati-Clermont Cougars Varsity scored on a wild pitch during Tyler Stewart's at-bat in the first inning, a double by Grant Gillespie in the second inning, a walk by Brian Zix in the second inning, and a triple by Brady Brooks in the second inning.

In the bottom of the first inning, Wright State University-Lake Campus Lakers Varsity tied things up at one. Wright State University-Lake Campus Lakers Varsity scored one run when Brennan Meyers doubled.

University of Cincinnati-Clermont Cougars Varsity pulled away for good with four runs in the second inning. In the second Gillespie doubled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run, Zix drew a walk, scoring one run, and Brooks tripled on the first pitch of the at-bat, scoring two runs.

Drew Day pitched the University of Cincinnati-Clermont Cougars Varsity to victory. The righty allowed four hits and three runs over five innings, striking out four. Zach Woodrum threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Seth Meade took the loss for Wright State University-Lake Campus Lakers Varsity. The hurler allowed two hits and five runs over one and two-thirds innings, striking out two.
