Lakers Take Two against GCU in Weather-Shortened Series

The Lakers (7-6) traveled to Grand Rapids, MI to play a four-game series against Grace Christian. Unfortunately, due to the weather, the series was shortened to 2 games on Friday, March 24th. The Lakers took advantage of the two-game series, winning both games with scores of 9-2 and 7-0. In Game 1, the Lakers were led on the mound by sophomore Seth Meade (2-1), who recorded his second win of the season while going 4 innings, allowing one run (unearned) on three hits and four walks. He also struck out three in his outing. On in relief was freshman Ethan Griffith, who went two innings and also allowed one run (unearned) on zero hits and two walks. He would also strike out three GCU hitters. To grab the last three outs was sophomore Trever Sheets, who allowed one hit and struck out two GCU hitters in his shutout inning. On offense, the Lakers were led in hits by sophomore Drew Emerson (3) and junior Nick Hundley (2). Recording RBI's were Emerson (4), Hundley (2), and freshman Kaden Davidson. Multiple Lakers also recorded 2 walks – freshman Noah Crawford, freshman Noah McEldowney, sophomore Cade Meade, and sophomore Dillon Lacey. 

In Game 2, the Lakers were led by a great start from freshman Daniel Brayton (1-0), who recorded his first collegiate win. Brayton pitched 5 shutout innings, allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out 9 hitters. On in relief for one inning apiece to continue the shutout were senior Sam Conklin and sophomore Alex DiVincenzo. Conklin allowed one hit and struck out one hitter; DiVincenzo did not allow any baserunners and recorded one strikeout. Top hitters for the Lakers were freshman Noah McEldowney and sophomore Brady Hobert, both recording two hits apiece. Recording RBI's were freshman Gabe Link (2), freshman Noah Crawford, freshman Noah McEldowney, sophomore Brady Hobert, and freshman Brandon Hampton. Junior Hayden Bill led the team with two walks. After these two games, the Lakers stand at 9-6. With the inclement weather, the Lakers have picked up a doubleheader series this coming Sunday against Trine University in Angola, IN.
