Lakers Go 1-3 at Nischwitz Stadium vs. IU South Bend

Wright State Lakers finish 1-3 in a four game set played at Nischwitz stadium vs. The IU-South Bend Titans.

Game 1

The Lakers lose game one after surrendering a big third inning. The Titans scored 5 runs in the third inning, which helped them defeat the Lakers 6-0. Thier other run coming in the 1st inning after Farnham singled, scoring a run. The Lakers struggled at the plate, managing only one hit for the game as Noah McEldowney singled on a bunt in the 5th. Shane Koedyker started and took the loss for the Lakers. The righty went 3 innings, allowing 6 runs (2 earned), on 6 hits, striking out 3 and walking 4. 

Game 2

A late score cost the lakers this game. Leading in the top of the 7th 4-3, untill a double by Fortson scored 2, putting the Titans up 5-4. Despite out hitting the Titans 8-6, the Lakers couldn't pull off the win. Nick Hundley and Noah McEldowney leading the Lakers offense, each collecting 3 hits in the game. After giving up the lead in the first, the Lakers recaptured it in the second after Noah Perkins doubled and the Titans committed an error, each scoring a run. Putting the Lakers up 2-1. Brady Hobert added to the lead in the third after tagging up on a sac fly from Hayden Bill, making the score 3-1. However, South Bend would tie the game at 3-3 in the fourth. A single by Hundley would put the Lakers up 4-3 in the fifth, but this would prove to be not enough to secure the win. Alex DiVincenzo started for the Lakers, the tall righty allowed 4 hits and 3 runs (1 earned) over 5.2 innings, striking out 7 and walking 5. Trever Sheets took the loss for the Lakers, the reliever went 1.1 innings, striking out 4 and walking 1. 

 

Game 3

The Lakers failed to overcome an earlt deficit in this one, losing 7-3. The Titans scored 6 of those seven in the second inning on 4 hits, including 2 doubles and a home run. Noah McEldowny led the Lakes offense with 2 hits in 5 at bats, including a tripple, which opened the scoring in the 3rd as Brady Hobert scored after reaching on a walk. Nick Hundley followed him up, going 1 for 3 with 2 RBI in the 5th, scoring Hayden Bill and Brady Hobert. Both reached earlier in the inning on walks. Daniel Brayton took the loss for the Lakers, the righty went 1.1 innings, surendering 7 runs on 6 hits, striking out 3 and walking 4. Freshman Cole Neely provided some much needed stability out of the pen. He reliever went 4.1 innings, giving up 2 hits and allowing 0 runs while stirking out 3 and walking 4. The Lakers finished with 4 hits in the game, 2 by McEldowney, Hobert and Hundley each contributing 1. 

Game 4

Led by Senior Hayden Bill, the Lakers pulled off a close win to negate the sweep. The right handed starter recorded all 21 outs for a complete game win. He gave up 1 run on 3 hits, striking out 6 and walking none. The Lakers got on the board early as Nick Hundley singled, scoring Liam Musgrove in the first. Musgrove opened the game with a single to left. The score remaining 1-0 Lakers all the way until the 5th. When a single by Ashton Focht got the inning started, and he would later come into score on a ground ball hit by Turner Ebersole. Making the score 2-0 and giving the Lakers a much needed insurance run as the Titans would threaten in the top of the 7th, scoring 1 run. But their rally was cut short on a diving play in foul ground by freshman firstbaseman Kyle Bill. The Lakers collected 3 hits in the game, Musgrove, Hundley and Focht all having one. 

The Lakers move to 6-7 on the year and will be back in action on March 13th versus Defiance College.
