Lakers Home Run Filled Weekend Helps Them Take the Series 2-1 vs. Trine University

The Lakers launched 4 home runs this weekend to secure a 2-1 series win over Trine University. 

Game 1 

Originally suppoed to be the first game of a double header, the Lakers only played a single 9 inning game on Saturday due to weather. The Lakers could not keep up with Trine in this one, losing 10-5. The game started slow, niether team managing run in the first 2 innings. But Trine got going in the bottom of the 3rd, scoring 5 runs and going up 5-0. The Lakers would try to chip away, scratching a run in the 4th, but Tine's offense was hot. They put up 5 runs over the next three innings, taking us to the 7th, the Lakers down 10-1. We would try to rally in the 8th, after Noah Crawford walks, followed by a Nick Hundley, putting runners at first and second with 2 outs. Jacob Barr would contiue the 2 out rally, with a double to center, scoring Crawford and Hundley. He would be brought in by Ashton Focht on a single before the inning ended. Tine would be be blanked in the bottom of the inning. Putting the score to 10-4 heading into the 9th, where the Lakers would only manage 1 run on a solo shot by sophmore Noah McEldowney. Daniel Brayton started and took the loss for the Lakers, the righty went 4.1 innings, giving up 7 runs (three earned), on 9 hits, striking out 5 and walking 2. The Lakers offense would manage 9 hits in the game, McEldowney, Focht and Barr each collecting 2, followed by Hundley, Dillholf, and Hayden Bill getting 1. 

Game 2

In game 2, the Lakers bounced back at home, defeating Trine 5-1. Liam Musgrove got things started for the Lake Crew with a lead off walk. Noah McEldowney continued his hot streak with a doudle, moving Musgrove to 3rd. Both were brought in to score on a single to left by Nick Hundley before the inning wold close. Dillon Lacey would continue the scoring by opening the 2nd with a solo shot to left. Putting the Lakers up 3-0 early and that's where the score stayed till the 5th. After Lacey walked, Hayden Bill launched a ball over the center field fence for a 2 run bomb. Trine would bounce back in the 5th, scoring 1. Bringing us to our final score of 5-1. Shane Koedyker started and earned the win for the Lakers, he gave up 1 run over 6 innings, striking out 1 and walking 1. Sophmore Noah Crawford came in to close for the Lakers, giving up no hits, no runs and walking none, securing the victory. Offensively, we only managed 4 hits, McEldowney doubling, Hundley singling, with Lacey and H. Bill leading the offense, each with a home run. 

Game 3

In game two of the double header, the Lakers were victorious, pulling out a win over Trine 6-4. Alex DiVincenzo started and earned the win for the Lakers, the tall right hander went 5 innings, giving up 4 hits, 3 runs, striking out 6 and walking 4. Trine opened the scoring in the 1st after a passed ball scored 1, followed by adding a run in the second. The Lakers being down 2-0 heading into the second. Nick Hundley got the inning started with a single. Followed by an absolute bomb by Cade Meade, clearing the trees out behind the right field fence, the junior tied the game up 2-2. The Lakers would add 1 the next inning after Hayden Bill Doubled and was brought in on a single by Brady Hobert. Hayden bill would aslo help add more in the 4th, hitting a fly ball to center and scoring Noah Perkins. Meade also scoring in the inning after singling and being brought home by Ashton Focht. Trine would recover a run in the 5th, bringing the score to 5-3 Lakers. We woould add one more in the bottom however, McEldowney singled, advanced to second and was brought in on a single by Hundley. Noah Crawford was brought in to close in the 7th, Trine would threaten the Lakers, managing to score 1 run. But the sophmore pitcher held off the Trine offense, giving up 1 run, on 1 hit and securing his fitst collegiate save. 

The Lakers are back in action on March 26th vs IUPUC in Columbus, IN.
