Lakers Split Series 2-2 With Cincinnati Clermont

Lakers put together a strong weekend to Split sereis 2-2 verses Cincinati Clermont, including a walk off by sopmore Noah McEldowney. 

Game 1

The Lakers fell to Clermont in game one of the series after surrendering a big first inning, losing 7-0 in the opening game. The Cougars were able to scratch 4 runs in the opening inning. With a strong offensive showing, and some batters box controversy, the Lakers found themselves trailing 4-0 heading into the second. Offersively, the Lakers only managed 2 hits in the game, Brady Hobert doubling and Turner Ebersole collecting a single. Only managing 5 other base runners, via 3 walks, and 2 HBP, the Lakers struggled against the Clermont ace. Defensively, junior Alex DiVincenzo started and took the loss. The tall righty threw 6 inings, allowing 11 hits, 7 runs (5 earned), walking 2 and striking out just as many on 114 pitches. 

Game 2

The Lakers bounced back in game 2, securing a win and tying the series 1-1 heading back to Montgomery Field. Winning with a score of 4-1, the Lakers wouldn't score until the 5th inning. Clermont opened the scoring in the 3rd, plating 1 run by stealing home. Defensively, junior Shane Koedyker started and threw a complete game against the #2 ranked Cougars. The right hander went 7 innings, only allowing 1 run, on 4 hits, 4 walks and striking out 7. He got some help from is middle infield, as Nick Hundley and McEldowney connected for a double play in the 2nd. Offesnsively, Noah McEldoweny provided some pop in the middle of the lineup, and led the Lakers with 3 runs batted in. Scoring Turner Ebersole and Liam Musgrove who were hit by pitch and singled respectively. Musgrove lead the Lakers offense, going 2-3 on the day with 2 singles. The only other hit being McEldowneys 3 RBI single. The lakers fourth run coming in the 7th, on a squeeze play. McEldowney scored Ebersole who had walked to lead off the inning. 

Game 3

Back at home on Montgomery Field the Lakers walked it off in the bottom of the 7th! Noah McEldowney hit a shot to left-center, doubling to scoring Liam Musgrove who was HBP to lead off the inning. Despite giving up a 2 runs in the top of the first, the Lakers started out hot in the bottom half of the inning. Talling 4 runs in their first trips to the plate. In the inning, Jacob Barr doubled scoring 2 runs, Nick Hundley singled, scoring a run, and Kyle Bill doubled, scoring a run. Tied 4-2 is where the game would stay till the 6th, when Clermont scored 2, tying the game 4-4 heading into the 7th. Reliever Cole Neely held the Cougars offense scorless in the 7th, setting the table for the offense. With a hit by pitch, and a sac bunt by senior Hayden Bill, the table was set for sophomore Noah McEldowney, and he delivered. Offensivley, the Lakers scored 5 runs on 9 hits, including 2 doubles by Kyle Bill, along with Jacob Barr and McEldowney adding doubles of their own. Hayden Bill singled, Brady Hobert singled, and Nick Hundley with 2 singles finished up all the Lakers offense for Game 3 of the series. Defensively, sophomore Daniel Brayton threw 5.2 innings, allowing 4 runs (2 earned), on 7 hits, walking 5 and striking out 2. He was relieved by Freshman Cole Neely, the reliever went 1.1 innings, surrendering no hits, no runs, walking 3 and striking out 1. 

Game 4

With a chance to clinche the series, the Lakers came up short in this one, losing 7-2. Senior Hayden Bill started on the mound for the Lakers, going 4 innings, allowing 2 runs on 9 hits, walking 1 and striking out 2. He was followed by Noah McEldowney who threw 2 innings, surrendering 5 runs, on 4 hits, walking 5 and striking out 3. Noah Crawford threw the last inning, the sophomore went 1 inning, allowing no runs, no hits, walking none and striking out 1. Offesnesively, the Lakers scored 2 runs, on 7 hits, walking 4 times and striking out 5. The Cougars jumped out to an early lead, scoring one in the first, and adding another in the 4th. Making the score 2-0 heading into the bottom of the 5th. Here, the Lakers would retaliate, scoring 2 runs. One via a sac fly from Brady Hobert, and another on a RBI single from Nick Hundley. However, the 2-2 score was short lived as Clermont would scratch 4 in the 6th, adding another in the 7th, bringing us to our final of 7-2. 

 

A special thanks to our seniors Hayden Bill, Nick Hundley, Ashton Focht, and Seth Meade as games 3 and 4 were played on the Lakers Senior Day. With this the Lakers are 20-22 on the season and will be back in action Friday, May 3rd versus Miami Middletown in a 9 inning conference game.
