Lakers Drop Pair to Rio Grande

WSULC Lakers lost 9-5 in seven innings in game one on Sunday, despite outhitting Rio Grande 10 to nine. 

Ronald Acosta racked up two RBIs on two hits for WSULC Lakers. He doubled in the third inning and singled in the sixth inning. 

Connor Burr shut down Rio Grande while he was on the mound. Burr held Rio Grande hitless over 2 1/3 innings, allowed no earned runs, walked two and struck out three. 

Rio Grande was sparked by Montano and Ford, who teamed up for four hits and three RBIs. 

Alek Hartell was charged with the loss. He allowed nine runs in 3 2/3 innings, walked four and struck out none. 

The top of the first saw WSULC Lakers take an early lead, 1-0. The Lakers' threat began with a single by Colton Nealeigh. A single by Isaac Fitzgerald then moved Nealeigh from first to third. 

It didn't take long for Rio Grande to respond as it scored three runs of its own in the third. Rio Grande never trailed after scoring four runs in the fourth on a two-run error and a two-run home run by Montano.

In game two, WSULC Lakers fell 9-8 to Rio Grande on Saturday despite racking up nine hits and eight runs. 

Derek Waterman got on base four times in the game for the Lakers. He doubled in the second inning and singled in the seventh inning. 

Jimenez, Ford, Flores and Lewis helped lead Rio Grande. They combined for nine hits and six RBIs. 

Tristan Becker ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with the loss. He lasted just two-thirds of an inning, walked none, struck out one, and allowed one run. 

The Lakers jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Wright State Lake's threat began with a single by Dillon Bell. More runs came home for the Lakers when Bell scored on a bases loaded walk by Harvey. 

It didn't take long for Rio Grande to respond as it scored five runs of its own in the third. Rio Grande scored on a two-run home run by Lewis, an RBI single by Ford, and a two-run double by Flores. 

Rio Grande answered WSULC Lakers' top inning with two runs of its own in the sixth. Rio Grande scored on a sacrifice fly by Montano and a steal of home by Lewis.
