Lady Lakers Start Season With Split

After much anticipation and several postponed contest, the Lady Laker Softball team was, finally, able to begin their season with a DH at Sinclair CC Tuesday afternoon.

 

Game 1: Wright State Lake Campus 2 versus Sinclair CC 1

The first game of the season began as a highly competitive pitchers duel, with neither team capable of cracking the scoreboard until the 4th inning. May Massie, for the Lady Tartans, lead that inning off with a single and was brought home one batter later on a double by Lacey Steele.

The Lakers, however, would answer in the 6th inning. Freshman, Hayley Ring started the inning with a single and scored one batter later when Pitcher Abbey Renner doubled to right field. After a single by Alexis Schwartz, Callie Vogel reach via an error, which loaded the bases for Tiffany Ricketts. Ricketts would produce the game-winning run via a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Renner from third.

The Lakers were lead by Renner who pitched all 7 innings, allowing 9 hits, 2 walks and a single run to go along with 3 strikouts in the winning effort. Hayley Ring lead the Lakers at the plate, going 3 for 3 with a double and a stolen base.

 

Game 2: Wright State Lake Campus 0 versus Sinclair CC 11 (5 innings)

Game two of the double-header did not go as well for the Lady Lakers, as pitcher Sierra Fent struggled with command throughout and the offense could only muster 3 hits.

Sinclair score a run each the first and second innings, before exploding for 7 runs in the third. Fent pitched 4.0 innings, allowing 8 hits, 5 walks and 11 runs to go along with 1 strikout in the losing effort.

The Lakers were lead on the offensive side by Jordan Leffley, who went 2 for 2 at the plate.

The Lakers sit at 1-1 on the young season.
